I’m not 100% sure but I think a keylogger program actually records the keys you type, so they can try to determine your password and break into your computer. A spyware program just records information about what websites you visit and stuff like that. You can get Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware to get rid of spyware, I am not sure if they also can detect and remove keylogger programs.
a keylogger is something that keeps tracks of the keys that you press on the keyboard, which means they can see your passwords, username and such.
a spyware program is usually a program that keeps track of the websites you visit, links that you click.
You need anti-spyware to find and remove them.
try spybot search & destroy or ad-aware. both are free. be careful though about other free anti-spyware, some of them are actually spyware themselves!

I am typing this on a AMD Duron 1300 that has NO HARD DRIVES and is running a LiveCDrom, PCLinuxOS!
grab the ISO, burn it, and make sure your CMOS SETUP has the boot order as CDROM, then floppy or hard drive, if any are installed…
The above definitions are basicly correct. Keylogger keeps track of key strokes. But Adware tracks where you have been on the net. Spyware can track ANYTHING it’s designed to “spy” on.
Using spyware a hacker can get your passwords and then control and install keyloggers, or do anything they what with your computer and data.
PS: a keylogger saves keystrokes directly so they can get your credit card numbers even if your on a secure site.
You need anti-virus, Spyware, and firewall protection.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)
